Hiring the right people?

Getting the right people for the right job is key to your success. A CV or even an interview doesnt tell you the whole story. Your employees play a very important role in the growth and success of your business. The search for the right employee doesn’t end with the resumes and cover letters. To find the perfect hire for your organization, there are many aspects that you need to look for in the employee you are interviewing. To help you make the right decision here is a list of things you can consider in the interviewee who is sitting across you.

Appearances make the first impression

There are many who often advise to look past the appearances and judge the person based on the skills and his worth to your company. We, however, would beg to differ here a bit. An interviewee who isn’t well dressed and properly groomed and made little to no effort to prepare himself for the interview shows that he might not be taking it too seriously. Disheveled hair, wrinkled clothes, and uncut dirty nails, messy facial hair growth go on to say a lot about the person sitting in front of you.

Age is a factor

Depending on the kind of job you are offering, you might need to pay a little attention to the age of the candidate. Usually, young energetic people are more suited for the jobs which require field work and traveling. If it is a desk job that you are talking about, then this is one factor you can compromise on based on the experience and skills of the candidate.

Remember with age comes experience, But with age the need for learning also decreases. Older people are more suited for jobs they already know how to do.

Relationship status

Relationships affect the mind set of a person. A single person will have more time and energy for work, while an engaged person will be more serious, hardworking and motivated.

It is against the laws in most of the states to make the relationship status the grounds for termination. Therefore, it is important that you are aware of the candidate’s relationship status before you make the hire. Family commitments can often make traveling difficult and it can be difficult for them to put in extra working hours. So explain the job responsibilities properly before you make the hiring.

Thirst for more

James Curran

A person who lacks the passion for learning or progressing is not someone you would want in your company. You need to have a team of motivated professionals who are willing to learn and give their best to the job. A person who has no motivation in life is not going to be a good addition to your workplace.

Education is not the only criteria

Education is a good judging criterion but after a certain time, it is not the only thing that matters. Most of the times, experience, and skills are more valuable than education. So before you judge a person based on the educational background, look for the other things that matter as well.

One thing to know is that no matter what judging criteria you use, some hires just might not work out. These are all factors that can help you analyze a person. There is no way to know beforehand how good of an employee the person would be.
